show flash # see whats already in the flash memory
delete flash:/<name_of_flash_to_delete>

transfering new ios version to the cisco device

  • setup local tftp server

Then on the cisco device

copy tftp flash

verify file and set it to boot on next boot

conf term

boot system flash:/<name_of_flash>
exit
copy run start
reload
* After reload check that you have booted the correct ios

show ver # and now you should see the new version running on the device

Diffrent mode in IOS

  1. user EXEC mode
    • User EXEC level allows you to access only basic monitoring commands
  2. privliged EXEC mode
    • privileged EXEC level allows you to access all router commands.
    • Privileged EXEC level can be password protected to allow only authorized users the ability to configure or manage the router.
  3. Global Configuration mode
    • From privileged EXEC level, you can access all the command modes.
    • There are five command modes:
      • global configuration mode
      • interface configuration mode
      • subinterface configuration mode
      • router configuration mode
      • line configuration mode
